Personal Interests

Dr. Mahoney resides locally in Martinsville with his wife, Samantha and his son, Ryder. The family is very active and enjoys attending sporting events together. When his schedule permits, Dr. Mahoney can be found outdoors, either riding his bike or playing tennis and basketball.

Biography

Prior to opening his own private practice in April of 2004, Mark T. Mahoney, D.O., received his Bachelor of Arts with distinction from the University of Virginia. He obtained his medical degree as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, CA in 2001. His residency in Family Medicine was completed at Trident Family Medicine in Charleston, SC where he was named Resident of the Year in 2003-2004 and was also an AREA Aware Winner in 2002. Dr. Mahoney was on the Recruitment Committee and was Head Resident in Charge of Recruiting at Trident Family Medicine. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Practice since June of 2004 and accredited with the NBOME, ACLS, and BLS. Although his schools varied in location, Dr. Mahoney chose to open his practice in Martinsville and Henry County as he is originally from this area, and his family and friends reside here.

Dr. Mahoney volunteered with the Crisis Ministries in Charleston where he provided health care for the homeless and assisted in instruction for 1st and 2nd-year medical students for several years. As a physician volunteer with John’s Island Migrant Clinic he provided care for migrant workers. He was a staff physician for players, fans, and staff of the Family Circle Cup in 2003. From the years 2001 through 2003 Dr. Mahoney volunteered as Burke High School’s team physician and was the College of Charleston’s physician aid, where he assisted with home games and weekly clinics, as well as performed sports physicals for athletes. Dr. Mahoney aided Habitat for Humanity in building houses on John’s Island in 2002 and is very active with the ASPCA currently. In the years 2005-2010, he served as the Medical Director of The Free Clinic of Martinsville/Henry County and is currently the treasurer for the Patrick Henry Medical Society.

As a Member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and Medical Society of Virginia, Dr. Mahoney has access to up-to-date information and regulations as well as advice.
